surely i can't be the only one doing these...

Bad habits while driving:
(you might have experienced some of them if you had the unfortunate experience of being my passenger at some point in time)

1) Farting freely
It seems like most of my daily farts occur when I'm driving.
I'd drop stink bombs on myself and then think to myself "wah lau why so smelly one?" sometimes all the time. If I'm alone, I wouldn't wind down the windows but if there are passengers onboard, I'd usually tell them "Hey, I'm going to fart okay!" and wind down the windows quickly. My passengers won't usually say no out of courtesy, but I think they must really be thinking "What's wrong with this girl?" and I'd usually try to convince them that it was an odorless one (who am I kidding).

If my passenger is Ah Hong though, I'd remain silent and give her a funny look after I'm done with the fart. Then she'd go batshit crazy and try to pinch my fats. I'm a terrible daughter, I know.

2) Karaoke session
I hold mini concerts in the car most of the time. Doesn't matter if I go out of tune, or can't hit the high notes, I'd still croak my favourite songs (Amei and Britney ftw!) with much gusto and then give myself a pat on the back for my terrible singing. I think no one does it better than me, on the negative scale of course.

3) Imitating the accents of radio deejays
Of course, I don't end up sounding anything like them.

4) Imitating weird noises/sounds on radio ads
It can be the revving of motor engines, melodies that accompany the ads, clanging of cymbals, tinkling of bells and so on. Sometimes, I 'improvise' and come up with new sounds of my own.

5) Cussing
Fortunately, this only happens when I come across drivers who change lanes dangerously (i.e. without turning on their signal lights), road hogs, or drivers who seem to take the flickering of my left or right signal lights as a sign to step on their accelerator pads.

Unfortunately, it seems to be happening all the time.

Other than these, I think I'm still not that jia lat a driver. Agree?

Driving.

I'm not exactly the most confident driver around but I've come to develop a love-hate relationship with driving ever since I got my license some 10 months back. I can't deny that it's brought about so much new-found convenience, but... at the same time, there are also so many things that I can't stand about driving (and, drivers in Singapore).

My top 5 driving peeves:

1) Drivers who don't signal when they're changing lanes.
What, you waiting for your signal lights to turn on by themselves?

2) People who can't park properly in the designated lots.
Do you really have to take up 2 lots?

3) Drivers who speed up to keep you from changing lanes.
I've missed a couple of expressway exits because of people like these; I swear like crazy when this happens.

4) Lane-hogs
Keep to the left if you're going slow please.

5) ERP gantries and expensive parking
I'm sure I'm not alone on this; my heart sinks a little every time I hear the beep from the reader when I have to go through one of the gantries. Most expensive parking fee paid? $12 at SMU; my jaw dropped because it was supposed to be a per entry fee of $3 after 8 p.m. Something must have gone wrong somewhere!

The list is non-exhaustive for sure, you probably can't wait to add things like "people who talk on their mobile phones or text while driving", "rude drivers", "pedestrians who cross the roads as though they're walking on their grandfathers' roads", and something not entirely really related to driving like "people who say females make bad drivers"... and so on.

Speaking of which, I think it's also really unfair to say that all cabbies are bad drivers. The reckless ones, they just happened to give a bad name to cabbies on the whole.

Hanging
my new driving companion.

And while there are so many things I do not like about driving, there are also many that I do enjoy. I like to sing along to the songs that are playing while I'm on a drive, because no one will hear how horrible I sound. I like cruising along empty and long stretches of roads in the middle of the night because it takes my mind off issues that may be making me sad/moody. I like being able to get that extra 30 minutes of snooze-time because of a much shorter travelling time. I feel independent when I'm out alone on the road. There are also actually plenty of nice drivers on the roads too.

Anyhow, all this wonderful and frustrating experiences would not have been possible if Mumsy had not asked me to go get my driving license a year ago. I'd never, for once, stopped counting myself lucky because Mumsy decided to let me use the family car most of the time, even though I'm staying in hall.

Speed Demon.... NOT.

Just got back from WJ's not-too-surprising surprise celebration at Sheare's Hall not too long ago, and it was great fun. A few more to go, and all of us will be 21... how time flies, to think we were only 13 when we first met.

The roads were pretty empty as I made our ways back to NTU; empty enough for some speed but I didn't want to step any harder on the accelerator pedal once we hit 110 klicks/hr. For some strange reason, 90 klicks/hr seems to be much faster in the night as compared to the day, at least to me. Call me a wuss or whatever you deem fit, but, I just don't feel safe driving anything more than 110klicks/hr; no prizes for guessing who'll probably be getting honked at a great deal if she goes up the Malaysia highways hur.

Anyway, it seems to me like everything's happening altogether all of a sudden and unsurprisingly, I feel so overwhelmed and swarmed with events ongoing, and events that are going to happen. Whoaaaaa! Let's pick things up slowly, and have a blast doing it guys!

Oh, and I had the sweetest dream last night. It was so sweet that I woke up smiling to myself, diabetic, I tell you. I don't want to jinx anything, so please, nothing funny from you girls okay :p

Elephants and hippopotamous

Rainy days are good for sleeping in and nothing else.
And as of today, I officially hate driving on rainy days. It gets really scary when your visibility is reduced to 25 centimetres all around.

The first paper's only 6 days away and I'm not even halfway through my notes (what's new). I am thankful beyond words that there're only two papers that I need to take. Don't hate me okay, I did not plan my modules or choose how many exam papers to take.

Happiness...

in the form of Ikea meatballs, chicken wings and daim cake with two very good friends. I felt like I just 'came out' to the next (and possibly last) friend, and that.will.be.all.that.I'm.going.to.say.period. Ha. I can jump off a building and die if the world knows these little secrets of mine.

And have I mentioned how happy I am with my single life right now? Albeit the grousings that I have bout school work, that is. It's close to half a year now, and I've more or less learnt to get comfy without a boyfriend. Now, I have so much more time for friends, the sun, sand and sea. wheee! I hope things will stay like this for a long, long, long time to come!

ps. there's been quite a few road accidents these days eh? I get a sort of chill when I pass by the wrecks, and I say silently to myself "please drive carefully, woman".

Girls' night in

We didn't quite bake the cake we were supposed to last night; we made Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies instead! Gathered at Simins' place (and she announced to everyone bout passing her guitar exam happily) and we got down to it kinda quickly. So while we were waiting for the cookies to finish baking, we did the basic Salsa steps together, and I've concluded that Milo hates my dancing because he barks so loudly whenever I started. Did quite a few startled jumps can.

apparently the globs were too big. bah

siaos and the giant cookie

Tomorrow will be the 5th consecutive day that I'm going to be visiting my tutee's place; I can hardly believe I'm dedicating 2 hours a day, five times a week to these two children. Good thing is, they're both a little more hardworking than when we first started.

It's raining, again. I think I have a love-hate relationship with the rain; the enjoyment comes when I get to stay in bed and snuggle under the sheets, and the loathing comes when it means getting stuck on-shore, or at home and plans cannot be carried out at all.

Totally random, but last night made me come to conclusion that I'm a hard and cold creature. Or I seem to give the impression of being someone totally heartless.

On another note, I'm getting sick of road-tards who refuse to give way when I need to switch lanes, when I've signalled at least 1 minute in advance at the traffic junction; something that I suspect's due to the newbie P-Plate. Karma's a bitch and it's so going to bite them back in time to come. The next time somebody horns me again, I will not wait to show them the finger. knnbcbcbcbc$%^&*&^%$#@@#$%=. Sorry, you probably get the idea how pissed I was.

In a nutshell

I think I've accumulated too many bad karma points; just because we don't see eye-to-eye on certain topics yah. Let's hope the payback will be in small dosages; for example, like the nagging pain I've been feeling in my tummy for the past hour or so.

Today's the first time I drove in such a heavy downpour. Couldn't make much of the lane-markings due to reflection of lights on the wet road surfaces; I got pretty scared at times when the speedometer showed that I hit 80 klicks and above.

Began on the first lesson of Salsa intermediate today too; did 'popping' and some move called the Open Break. No idea why but it feels like I haven't been dancing for a long time, when in actual fact, it's only been a week. Guess I'll need to work more on my balancing!

It's Friday once more, and (as usual) I'm so glad the weekend is here again.

It was during one of those conversations where we were disagreeing again with each other's views that I got a clearer understanding of ...
